Scuba Diving in Fiji

Fiji diving opens up a world of beautiful reefscapes, underwater gardens, and teeming sea life in what is often cited as the ‘soft coral capital’ of the world. Fiji waters average a gentle 25-28 degrees Celsius or 79-83 degrees Fahrenheit and with high water visibility often reaching up to 40 metres (130 feet). Our Fiji dive sites are ideal for experienced scuba divers and those new to its wonders. With more than 390 coral species, and 1200 fish species, exploring Toberua’s waters is the perfect way to try scuba diving in Fiji Islands.

Our fully equipped PADI dive centre, Toberua Divers, offers diving courses for adults and children, with our friendly instructors making it an excellent choice if you’re deciding where to dive in Fiji. Our dive centre is equipped with quality dive gear that is available for hire. Our dive centre can certify you in all courses, which include all materials, boat dives, exams and certification cards. If you would prefer to save time on your holiday, you can complete your course theory online before you arrive. 

Best Place to Learn to Dive in Fiji

Toberua is located in the Lomaiviti Group, which is famously known as providing the best snorkelling in Fiji due to its healthy reefs and dense population of marine life. Our own nearby reefs contain magnificent hard and soft corals, and many varieties of fish, turtles, and reef sharks (a major attraction). Our versatile dive sites take you through coral heads, caves, and soft coral gardens. There is something for scuba divers of any level, from beginner to advanced, with diving ranges from 3 to 30m.

Do you need a license to scuba dive in Fiji?

Learning how to scuba dive is important before embarking on your adventure – our dive centre is accredited to an international standard to ensure you get the best and safest experience. Some of our courses, such as our Open Water Certification, also allow you to dive anywhere in the world.

PADI Dive Courses

Our dive centre can certify you in all courses. *Pricing includes all materials, boat dives, exams and certification card. If you would prefer to save time on your holiday, you can complete your course theory online before you arrive. **You can purchase the e-Learning theory material here.

Discover Scuba Diving – F$260
An introductory dive experience that includes basic theory, a pool session and a sea dive. This course allows you to dive with your instructor for up to 14 days. You must be able to swim and be at least 10 years old.

Open Water Diver – F$1,140* OR e-Learning – F$960**
This course certifies you as an internationally recognised scuba diver allowing you to dive anywhere in the world. The course involves theory and 4 sea dives. You must be able to swim and be 10 years or over for junior certification and 15 years or over for full certification.

Advanced Diver – F$980* OR e-Learning – F$800**
This is the next step of PADI education following the Open Water Certification. This certificate takes you through specialised types of diving. You must complete 5 dives in total, including a deep dive and underwater navigation dive.

Rescue Diver – F$1,050* OR e-Learning – F$870**
The rescue diver expands on preventing emergencies and how to manage them. A rewarding and demanding course where you will learn self rescue, recognising and managing stress in other divers, rescuing panicked and unresponsive divers. This course also includes first aid skills. Allow 3-4 days. You must be at least 15 years old, be a certified advanced diver, or similar certification and be trained in first aid within the last 2 years.

Scuba Diver – F$840
This is a pre-entry level certification that is for people who only plan to dive a couple of times a year. As a subprogram of the PADI Open Water Diver program, the PADI scuba diver allow you to get certified quickly and easily.

Open Water Referral – Price depends on level achieved

If you only have time to complete part of the Open Water Course, we send you away with a form which enables you to complete the full course with another PADI instructor. Alternatively, do the theory and pool work at home and come to the warm tropical seas of Toberua to finish the 4 open water dives.

Boat Dive Sites

Shark Reef – Intermediate 40-70 feet / 3-30 meters

Shark Reef is home for white tip reef sharks. This site has many dramatic rocky coral overhangs, with some swim through giant coral archways. You can expect to see snapper and the occasional turtle.

Sacred Reef – Beginner to Advanced 20-80 feet / 7-25 meters

This dive starts on a giant coral head and moves onto a shallow wall. This site has a small cave and a swim through that ends on a beautiful coral garden. It is home to many white tip reef sharks, turtles, eagle rays, gropers, napoleon wrasses and large gorgonian fans.

Stairway to Heaven – Beginner to Advanced 30-60 feet / 10-18 meters

This is a shallow dive that has three gigantic coral heads and a swim through. You have the chance to see many types of fish including the rare frog fish and a resident green sea turtle.

The Playground – Advanced 20-70 feet / 7-20 meters

This is truly a playground for divers offering all that is exciting. Home to a large number of sea fans, reef sharks, morays and turtles. There are many swim throughs, overhangs, crevasses and caves.

Bird Island Reef – Advanced 40-90 feet / 12-28 meters

This is a coral lover’s delight. The reef has amazing coral that stretches as far as the eye can see. You can expect to see white tip reef sharks, walu, barracuda, tuna, a school of eagle rays, giant clams, grey tip reef sharks and turtles.

Magic Reef – Beginner 30-60 feet / 10-18 meters

Magic Reef is a miniature version of Bird Island reef. This site is a shallow slope that has an abundance of amazing coral. The site has hundreds of different reef fish.

Twin Sisters – Advanced 15-80 feet / 5-25 meters

Circle two big pinnacles close to each other. You can expect to see turtles, white tip reef sharks, nurse sharks, eagle rays, sea fans, and a wide variety of colourful reef fish.

Picnic Island Reef – Beginner to Advanced 20-80 feet / 7-20 meters

This is a gorgeous soft coral garden. See leaf fish, nudi branch, turtles, white tip reef sharks and a wide variety of reef fish.

Toberua Wall – Beginner to Intermediate 10-40 feet / 3-12 meters

A 5 minute boat ride from the resort delivers you to a great drift dive experience. Juvenile fish, hard corals, and rays are often seen while drifting.

The Aquarium – Beginner to Advanced 10-90 feet / 3-30 meters

Two large connected coral bommies and a wall that allows divers to enjoy whatever depth they are comfortable with. The whole dive can be spent viewing corals, schools of fish and marine life. Frequently seem are reef sharks, rays, turtles and dolphins. A great place for a 60 minute dive.

Moturiki Pinnacles – Beginner to Advanced 10-90 feet / 3-30 meters

Combined with a visit to Picnic Island, or as a two tank dive anytime there are two fantastic bommies, reaching a depth of 90ft/30m. It takes about 12 minutes to circumnavigate the bommies. Continue the circle as you ascend to finish the dive. Experience healthy coral formations, abundant marine life and a swim through.
